What is Colonic?
The word “colonic” refers to the colon. A colonic is known by a few other names as well such as colonic hydrotherapy, high colonic or colonic irrigation. A colonic is a relatively simple procedure, although it does take some time.
A colonic should only be performed by a qualified colonic hydrotherapy specialist. A colonic hydrotherapy specialist is a medical professional who is trained in how to safely perform a colonic irrigation. The colon is a sensitive organ and can be damaged easily by someone who doesn’t know how to use the equipment.
During a colonic, a therapist will insert a plastic tube, up the anus to the colon. Warm water is then pumped in and the waste is flushed out. During the treatment, the therapist my put pressure on the abdomen with light massage. The system is entirely closed. No one will smell an odor and there is no mess. The therapist may comment about the color of the waste, as this is supposed to be an indication of what is being flushed from the system. After the tube is removed the patient then spends some time on the toilet, to remove any residual waste or water. The whole treatment takes about an hour.
Results will vary. Some people who are proponents of colonic irrigation say that it is beneficial for the overall health of the patient, and that you can actually lose weight. Estimates range widely, from 5 pounds to 15 pounds, and while this is not a good reason to have a high colonic done, it is an added benefit.
